What Do The Colors Of The Mexican Flag Mean? - WorldAtlas
vertically striped green-white-red national flag with a central coat of arms featuring an eagle, a cactus, and a serpent. The flag has a width-to-length ratio of 4 to 7. The struggle for Mexican independence took place under a number of flags, but, when it was finally achieved in 1821 under the conservative Iguala Plan, a tricolour of green-white-red was officially established. The Mexican flag is a vertical tricolor of red, white, and green with a coat of arm on the white band. The country adopted these colors during the battle for independence. The overall design of the flag was adopted in 1821, but the coat of arm was revised in 1968. Even though the length-width ratios of the flag and the coat of arms have been modified numerous times, the coat of arms has always ... The Mexican flag, along with the Mexican coat of arms (escudo nacional) and the Mexican national anthem, is considered one of the símbolos patrios, or 'patriotic symbols' of Mexico, and thus commands great respect from Mexicans. The current national flag was adopted on September 16, 1968, and was confirmed by law on February 24, 1984. Flag Etiquette. As with most national flags, the Mexican flag has a specific etiquette and protocol for being in its presence. When used at large gatherings, military individuals in uniform must salute the flag. Civilians cover their heart with their right hand, palm facing the ground, to show respect. The Mexican flag was created in 1821, when the Independence movement had ended victoriously. El Día de la Bandera or the Fiesta of the Mexican Flag is celebrated on February 24. La Bandera de México está dividida en tres partes, verde, blanco y rojo respectivamente y en el centro se encuentra el Escudo Nacional, el cual se compone de un ...

2020.09.29 04:33 MumbleGumbleSongPancho’s “Raise the Flag” Song?
I was describing Pancho’s Mexican Buffet to my husband and of course had to sing the song. Which led to a Google search that turned up...nothing. Did I imagine this? Is there any video of the “Raise the flag” song from the 90’s out there? Thanks for indulging in my silly question.
2020.09.29 01:49 prosperosmileFound on Facebook: "Literally every conversation with a Trump hater about the upcoming election sounds something like this...."
Warning: there are too many fallacies to count after this disclaimer. Also, I am not "Me". Literally every conversation with a Trump hater about the upcoming election sounds something like this.... Hater: I can't wait to get Donald Trump out of office. Me: Why? Hater: Why?!?! Don't tell me you don't think he colluded with Russia! Me: According to Robert Mueller's exhaustive, multi million dollar investigation, there was no evidence of that. But there was evidence that the Obama administration spied on him and his campaign using the FBI. Hater: Well, he said he'd repeal and replace Obamacare. What happened to that? Me: Well he removed the tax penalty which removes the mandate. Congress now just has to move with it's replacement. He can't do it by Executive Order. You do know Obama had very little to do with the writing of the ACA, right? Hater: Well, he said he'd build a wall and Mexico was gonna pay for it. Haha. What happened to that? Me: They've built over 260 miles of new wall so far and he's renegotiated NAFTA costing Mexico Billions of dollars that were given to them by Bill Clinton through the returning of jobs in America. Mexico agreed to station 35,000 Mexican Army troops on the south side of the border to stop northbound trespassers. No more caravans or large scale illegals. Mexico PAID FOR THAT. Hater: Well that's not them paying for it! It is indeed just that. Me: BILLIONS. Did you think he literally meant Mexico was gonna write a check with "Wall" in the memo? 🤦♀️ Hater: Well he's buddy buddy with Putin and Kim Jung Un. Me: Getting along with your adversaries is not a bad thing. Or would you prefer he antagonize them? BTW, when was the last "test missle" North Korea sent Japan's way? Hater: Well he doesn't like the military! He called the dead soldiers "losers"! Me: You're referring to a report made from "anonymous sources" when over 9 people who were with the President that have gone on record saying that it wasn't true? That doesn't send up any red flags for you? He's brought our Vets home and taken great strides, and put alot of money into fixing the VA, ask any Vet you know. Funny way to treat people you think are "losers", don't you think? Hater: Well he got impeached for God's sake! Me: Yes, impeached by a partisan House and subsequently acquitted as there was no evidence that the President did anything wrong(no quid pro quo) in his communication with the President of Ukraine. BTW you know Joe Biden actually admitted on national television to doing that exact thing while he was in office as VP though, right? Hater: Well he handled COVID horribly! Me: What would've you done differently? Hater: He didn't close the borders in time! Me: He announced travel restrictions on 1/31 and was called xenophobic for doing so, all the while Nancy Pelosi and Bill Deblasio were walking in Chinatown telling everyone to come on down, the water is fine. Hater: Well he refused to wear a mask. Me: Here's a picture of him wearing a mask. Hater: Well that was too far after! Me: After what? He had 2 of his experts on national TV every day giving updates and telling everyone to wear a mask? Hater: Well he said everything will be fine and this will end! Me: Did you want him to run around screaming that the sky was falling? Hater: Well listen to the way he talks! He's nasty! He's not how I want my President to sound. Me: Ahhh....NOW we're getting somewhere. You don't like his personality. And everything you've mentioned up until now is because you don't like his personality. So for you it seems personal and not about the job he's done. So listen, if you want a President who will tell you whatever you want to hear, flip flopping on every issue, not getting anything done his entire time while in office, but who sounds like a nice guy(even though he seems seriously impaired), then Joe Biden is definitely your man. Trumps not racist and there is no proof he is. There is however much to disprove it!

2020.09.28 12:12 jdjcnncncnncAITA for only making white people food for a diversity food party?
English is not my first language and I’m on mobile. This happened in 2018, back when I was studying in the US for a semester. Something* made me think back on this situation so I wanted some opinions. (*I was chatting with a friend about the US minorities and their situation) Basically, our department (which had tons of foreign students) had a party and we were asked to cook some food for it, to celebrate our diversity. I’m from the Czech Republic, so I made my best efforts to get the suitable ingredients and I cooked up small portions of our traditional food, I also made some other dishes I knew - Slovakian, Polish, Austrian, Hungarian - because these are often made back home. I did tiny portions because our food does tend to be kind of heavy, so I ended up bringing many trays with small plates of food. It was a lot because one regular portion got split up into about five tiny ones and most of my recipes are intended to feed a four member family. At the food party we milled about, people tried the food, asked about it (I had small labels and tiny flags that I painted so show which country the food is from). I thought it was going great and I went around tasting all kids of dishes I never had - for me Mexican food is very exotic, so I was happy to try some authentic dishes. One of my course-mates (classmates?) went over to my tables as I was munching on some tamales and she asked about the food I made, so I showed her and told what is what. Then she told me that she doesn’t want to insult me but if really think it’s appropriate to only bring white food to a diversity party. So I told her I brought examples of slavic, germanic and hungarian cuisine, and even for slavic cuisine I included three countries, so I think I fulfilled the diversity requirement. She then told me that that’s not the point, it was still bunch of plain white people food and that I should have made food by other ethnicities because majority of the students there were white. But majority of them never tasted Czech or Slovak food. She told me I was being insensitive but she understood that as an European from a white country I could never understand. She was the only one to approach me with this but I saw her talking to others and pointing and I feel like fewer people came to try the food. So now it made me think, was I really being insensitive? I am European after all, my country is very homogenous and the majority of foreigners we have are also white slavs (we have a big Vietnamese community but I don’t know their dishes). Was I being insensitive? It was not my intention. I just thought that food being Czech, Polish, etc, was being diverse. It didn’t even cross my mind that all the nations are white.
2020.09.26 22:34 StupidoverexplainerI got banned from r/lgbtteens for literally shaming the antagonist of a story.
Ok someone said that yada yada in the bus for her Christian school she waved a pride flag and it got taken away. But some kid waved a trump flag and that was perfectly acceptable. Ok now im a gay mexican so what im about to say i really believe. If you disagree thats fine. I have evidence to believe what I do and if you disagree you may have caught different information. Maybe i havent been exposed to yours or you haven’t been exposed to mine. Im not here to debate just share the stupid ban. Whatever. So I comment, hah jokes on the homophobic kid for supporting trump who is literally the most pro gay president. That was downvoted to shit and I got one reply and I simply said I disagree and so do you but thats fine. :) so i was respectful to every rely and boom. Ban.
2020.09.25 21:57 IFUCKINGLOVEMETHJust realized Zelda OoT combines various desert-dwelling cultures such as Mexican and Arabic into a singular new culture
In OoT, you may be familiar with Gerudo Fortress and Gerudo Valley. This is an area that cleverly combines various desert-dwelling cultures such as Mexican and Arabic into one singular new culture. When you first enter the desert area on horseback a song plays on spanish guitar (clearly all part of that Mexican aesthetic). But where does "Gerudo" come from? I believe it's derived from the sanskrit word "Garuda" a legendary bird or bird-like creature in Hindu, Buddhist and Jain faith. You may notice that all the Gerudo (including Ganondorf) have very long beak-like noses. The Twinrova sisters in particular looking extremely bird-like. Furthermore, here's a quote from a zelda wiki about the Crest of the Gerudo:
This symbol was similar, but not identical, to the Star and crescent symbol that is prominent in the Islam, the Muslim community in general, and several national flags in Asia. Some of the differences between the two symbols include: The Islamic version has a 5-point star, while the Gerudo version has 4 points; the Islamic crescent faces to the right, and is not as "complete" or "closed" as the Gerudo one, which faces to the left; and many Islamic crescents have the star deeper in it, not at the edge like the Gerudo version does. In any case, due to the religious meaning of the symbol, Nintendo edited it out in all of its spots in the game, with a single exception. The newer Gerudo Symbol has since been a staple in modern revisions of Ocarina of Time.
And then obviously the Gerudo women use Scimitars and wear harem pants / chalwar. But finally, Nintendo seamlessly blends the cultures by choosing to reference a Gerudo 'fortress' and 'valley'. There is a term in Arabic وادي الحجارة (wādī al-ḥajārah) which means "Fortress Valley" or "Valley of the Stone". Wādī al-ḥajārah also happens to be where the word Guadalajara came from. You may recognize that as a city in... Mexico.
2020.09.25 20:04 PeterthePanda07Should I have gotten upset over my nmom calling me fat and being racist
I have always been overweight but I am also 6 for 3 at age 13, but my mom is obese .in my house I am the only person of color. I had asked my mom to turn down the ac one day and she had told me that I have enough blubber on me to keep me warm. My mom has had a thing for dark skin guys and she has said so much shit to me, such as straight up calling me a mistake, I know this post has gone everywhere but I also get yelled over the littlest things she is dating someone new and treating me way worse than she normally does. So much so that she has started saying really racist things like I should be go mowing lawns like the other Mexicans (I'm Puerto Rican). Not to mention my family doesnt help. My cousin bought a Confederate flag but I want something like a rainbow six flag and I'm told no. I have been told so much shit in life such as being told that yelling and being hit sometimes is love i apologize for going all over the place but when typing this I just kept remembering everything else. I have literally been on the verge of suicide before. I am also treated like a slave around my house, my cousin doesnt have to do anything

2020.09.25 07:47 diego_g1129been taking adderall agian for about a 1 n 1/2 month
all i have to say is besides my tolerance going up and taking 60mg ir throughout the day with a few monster energys. is where tf is all the time going like wtf it feels like yesterday was monday today was tuesday but IRL its already friday like wtf ik im using this stuff to cope with breaking up with my emotionally abusive ex gf who i still simp for sadly but god damn wtf where is my time going i dont even jerk off for hours on end i just spend it fixing my truck and working out and ig just being spun tf out. sure sometimes it all hits me like last night i ended up crying to my grandparents who i lost recently and really broke down for the first time in a few weeks but wtf where is it all headed it feels like im on a bullet train and im taking this adderall maybe will even get into meth if i need too since my doctor wont prescribed more than 40mg a day for a month script but yeah. Ik I completly sound like a addict and Ik i am one alothugh i dont go around acting like most drug crazed mexicans do tbh like i told my grandparents last night in a flood of tears that i just couldnt release while hearing the gun shoots at my grandfathers funeral and seeing my aunt recieve a flag i had only ever seen protrayed in movies. it may look like im destroying myself ik what im doing but ik that if i dont do this I will end up down a road ive been down before of excrutiating hearthache and pain. theapists, doctors and nurse who all say they care but dont gaf about u really (rehab/mental health treatment/ HELP) its always caused me more pain and deppression than just hitting a bottle of addie and just letting time half heal my still semi open wounds i hide by putting on a fake smile n taking a addie whenever i need too. sorry i just needed to vent yall shit its been a long couple of months espically since covid took my grandad and almost my mom and well then i realized the person i called my girl could care less about what i spent most of my days doing and didnt really communicate with me even when i reached out to her all the time ever since then ive just been focusing on my degree, losing weight so i can try n become more androgynous n be a femboy and be my true self and just hopefully find a girl who truly will accept me for what i am who i am and who i once was and understand that no matter what ive been through or whatever that they still truly love me cause i realise now it doesnt matter how many times someone tells you they made a mistake and ask u to take them back (Ex cheated then left about 2 time after in the span of just over a year) what truly matters is when they tell you something and then do things to show you that they truly do mean what they say. not just say things to make u feel happy and show u just enough love so u can stfu and stop complaing about feeling used. this is why i love adderall becasue i can tell you all this without really becoming emotionall and instead thinking about the girl i was talking to a few days ago n now im hung up on her but hey at least its better that running back to someone who always called me weird n shit cant belive i actally went fully sober for her yet she didnt find a issue whith smoking weed or drinking every now and then because she could handle it and i couldnt so she did it when i wasnt around so i wouldnt complain I really do want to find someone who really is the right person for me and i really am trying to work on myself for the better even if that means being a stims junkie. i rather be looked at as a guy with issues than as a nusance to society im not going to let my deppression and mental illness destroy everything ive been working so hard for just becasue i fell in love with someone who didnt realize what they ahd unitl they lost it and now post stuff about being sad and obvious fake smile pictures because they couldnt work on the issues we had even though thats all i wanted fuck that shit i did my part i tried my hardest but if i cant be what you want me to be then dont pull me under because im past that shit youll never see whats inside of me. I lit a red candle yesterday idk why ig that voice in your head we get sometimes told me too but all i know is that in it is my final prayer my last cry for help its all i have left other than fear of what im afraid of becoming and of what i once was
2020.09.24 19:11 artsa-daI was driving behind a Mexican Army transport column of 5 vehicles this morning. When they flagged me to pass we had a little street race. Standard issue G3’s, digital selva uniforms and a mounted LMG variant riding on the familiar Chevy Cheyenne.
I am pleased to say my pre-season predictions were fairly close to being correct, although I was off in some places. My 90% prediction was both Racing Point drivers would get a podium. Currently, this is half true due to Stroll’s third place at Monza, although it could be argued he should have won that race. Sergio Pérez does not yet have a podium, and has outperformed so far by Stroll this season. But more on that later. My 50% prediction was the team would finish fourth in the Constructors Championship, and with the team currently sitting fourth behind McLaren and ahead of Renault, I am pleased to say this is, so far, bang on the money. I did not foresee McLaren being ahead of Racing Point or Ferrari sitting sixth at the midway point, but then I do not think anyone did, especially the latter. My 10% prediction, the one graded least to happen, is hard to grade because of Ferrari’s unlikely implosion this year. Therefore, whilst Sergio Pérez is, on points, performing better than one of the ‘top six’ drivers from Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari, he sits ninth in the championship. His young teammate, meanwhile, is in a tight battle for fourth in the WDC.
The Story So Far
The season started well with a sixth place finish for Sergio Pérez at the Austrian Grand Prix, although they had hoped for more based on the team’s pre-season testing performance. Lance Stroll’s race ended after nine laps with persistent engine trouble, while Pérez had lost two places in two laps, to the McLarens of Lando Norris and Carlos Sainz. Additionally, there were rumblings within the paddock after the Grand Prix that some teams were not happy with Racing Point’s design, insinuating that it was a copy of the Mercedes W10 from 2019, but no one took any action. Next race was marginally better, although the team still performed well below both expectations, both internal and the media’s. Stroll finished 6th after receiving a time penalty late on in the race for his audacious move against Daniel Ricciardo, whilst Pérez could only manage seventh. After the race, however, drama started. Renault filed a protest with the FIA, contesting the legality of the Racing Point’s RP20. Shortly after it was filed, the FIA confirmed the validity of the protest and impounded the RP20’s brake ducts, also requesting Mercedes supply brake ducts for the previous season’s W10 for comparison. The F1 circus moved to the Hungaroring for the Hungarian Grand Prix, with Racing Point in a clear second, pace wise, with the Mercedes cars ahead. This was confirmed in qualifying, with Stroll qualifying third and Pérez fourth, but again the race pace just did not match qualifying, with Stroll slipping back to fourth and Pérez dropping to 7th. After the race, Renault filed an identical protest to the one filed after the Styrian Grand Prix, and indicated it would do so until the FIA a decision was made. Before Silverstone, however, the season would stop for Sergio Pérez, who tested positive for COVID-19 and had to self-isolate. He had travelled to Mexico between the Hungarian and British Grand Prix weekends to see his mother, who was unwell (not with COVID-19), where he was likely infected. Racing Point chose to replace him with their old charger, Nico Hülkenberg. For Hülk, this was a chance to get himself on a Formula 1 podium, which he had not been able to achieve for 177 Grand Prix. Hülk qualified 13th, in a good showing considering he had not driven the RP20 prior to that weekend and only had a few hours practice in it. Stroll put his car sixth, his third Q3 appearance of the season. However, when getting ready to fire up Hülkenberg’s car an hour or so before the start of the race, the team found it would not start. A faulty clutch was diagnosed as the problem, and such is the complexity of modern F1 cars, it could not be fixed or replaced in the time remaining before lights out, meaning the car had to be withdrawn. Hülk’s podium hopes, much like his car’s clutch, were gone. Stroll, meanwhile, finished the race ninth, passed by the Renaults and Pierre Gasly in the AlphaTauri. While he still scored points, it was felt by many that the car’s full potential in races was not being fulfilled, given the performance at pre-season testing. In between the two races at Silverstone, the FIA came to a decision regarding Renault’s protest, finding Racing Point guilty of using data from Mercedes W10 brake ducts, fining them 400,000 euros, plus a loss of 15 Constructors’ points, while the drivers kept their WDC points. The ruling hinged on listed and non-listed parts, so even though Racing Point had legally obtained the data for the Mercedes W10 rear brake ducts, the rear brake ducts became Listed Parts for 2020, meaning each constructor had to design and build their own, so Racing Point could not buy Mercedes rear’ brake ducts, as it had legally done in years previous. However, Racing Point had kept the data about the Mercedes W10 rear brake ducts for 2020, using it to inform the design of its 2020 car. This is, and was, illegal as per the 2020 technical regulations, and so Racing Point were found guilty, with a subsequent rewriting of the 2021 regulations in order to clarify matters. After the ruling, Renault immediately protested again, as did Ferrari, Williams, and McLaren, although both British teams later withdrew their protests. Racing Point filed an appeal, but in the subsequent weeks all appeals and protests were withdrawn and the matter is now resolved, with the FIA making clear in their decision that any further protests will result in only reprimands to the team, effectively making the RP20 legal for the rest of the season. Pérez tested positive again the week following the race, which meant he would have to sit the 70th Anniversary GP out. This gave Hülkenberg a reprieve, and another chance to score that long-awaited podium. In a hugely impressive showing, the German put his car third on the grid, just under four tenths faster than his teammate, who qualified sixth, and almost a tenth ahead of Verstappen in the Red Bull. The one lap pace, however, once again did not hold up in the race, with Hülkenberg slipping to sixth and Stroll slipping to seventh in a race dictated by tire life on the incredibly hot track. As the season progressed, it has become clear that the Racing Point RP20 was not particularly easy on its tires, which crippled them in the race but allowed good one-lap pace. The Spanish Grand Prix saw much improved race pace from Racing Point, who maintained their qualifying positions of fourth and fifth, although the order did switch around from Perez to Stroll in qualifying, to Stroll beating Perez to fourth in the race. The next race, the Belgian Grand Prix, is a circuit the Racing Point team, in its various guises, has always gone well at. Jordan scored its first win in a wet, chaotic, topsy-turvy race there, whereas Giancarlo Fisichella scored Force India’s first podium at Spa in 2009. Hopes were high, then, that the team could finally show off the RP20s true potential. It was not the team’s weekend, though. They qualified a lacklustre eighth and ninth, Pérez ahead of Stroll, and finished in the same order with the positions swapped around. Once again, it was felt by many that the car’s potential - essentially a 2019 Mercedes - was not being fully exploited. At the Italian Grand Prix, though, it all came good. Pérez qualified fourth, with the excellent straight line speed of the RP20 being helped with a low drag, low downforce setup. Stroll could only manage eighth, however. Pérez sat fourth after the first lap at Monza, overtaking Valtteri Bottas after the Finn’s atrocious start, but in turn being outmuscled by Lando Norris at the second chicane. He remained there until the safety car came out for Kevin Magnussen’s stranded Haas, pitting with the rest of the field, but the race was promptly red flagged soon after the safety car came in for Charles Leclerc’s big accident at Parabolica. Stroll, who had not pitted, took advantage of the red flag and changed his tires, meaning at the restart he jumped his teammate and sat second only to Hamilton. As the Mercedes driver had a penalty for pitting while the pitlane was closed, Stroll held the net lead of the race. However, he had a bad get away at the restart, losing out to Carlos Sainz and eventual winner Pierre Gasly, and he remained in third until the finish. He therefore took the team’s first podium of the season, although it was felt by many onlookers that he had the pace to win the race, had he not messed up the race restart. Pérez finished tenth, losing out to drivers around him. Amidst all this, rumours were rife that Sebastian Vettel, currently suffering in a mediocre-at-best SF1000, was headed to Racing Point for 2021, when the team will be rebranded as Aston Martin. The rumours gained pace when the German was spotted getting into Racing Point team principal Otmar Szafnauer’s Ferrari at Silverstone, and he also fist-bumped team owner Lawrence Stroll in the paddock. Although Szafnauer denied the rumours, saying that there was no reason to ditch Stroll and Pérez, the whisperings would not go away, in particular regarding Pérez losing his seat to the four-time world champion. This was felt by many to be harsh on the Mexican, who had been with the team for seven years, staying loyal through thick and thin and even taking it into administration in order to save it in 2019. Finally, on September 6, Pérez tweeted a statement confirming he would be leaving Racing Point at season’s end. It was only a matter of time before Vettel was confirmed as his replacement, with the announcement coming the following day. Vettel’s move to Racing Point / Aston Martin was the main topic of discussion at the Tuscan Grand Prix, the first ever F1 GP at Mugello, in the hills of Tuscany. This must have aggrieved Ferrari, on the occasion of their 1000th Grand Prix! Vettel was, predictably, all smiles for most of the weekend, despite his car’s lacklustre performance. Pérez qualified ahead of Stroll once again at Mugello, in sixth and seventh, behind the Mercedes’, Red Bulls, and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc. The race was another chaotic affair, with a lap one safety car and a red flag after nine laps of racing. Stroll and Pérez managed to survive until late into the race; however, with nine laps to go, Stroll’s rear right tire failed and he crashed heavily into the barriers, triggering another red flag. Pérez then came home fifth, a decent result, finishing behind a quick Daniel Ricciardo but ahead of both McLarens.
In the seven races Stroll and Pérez have both competed in, Stroll has beaten Pérez 4-3, with Stroll getting one podium to Pérez’s nil. However, to Pérez’s credit, he has scored points in every race he took part of. Stroll has failed to finish two races, although both were not his fault, with a power unit failure in Austria and a tire failure induced crash at Mugello. In the races where Stroll had Hülkenberg as his teammate, Stroll beat him both times, unsurprisingly, as Hülk did not start the British Grand Prix, and lost out to Stroll in the 70th Anniversary GP. In terms of qualifying, Pérez has beaten Stroll 5-2. This continues the narrative of Stroll having relatively poor qualifying pace, although he has improved this year, getting the car into Q3 all but one time, the same as Pérez. Against Hülkenberg at Silverstone, Stroll out-qualified the German in the British Grand Prix, but in the 70th Anniversary GP, Hülk put in a magnificent lap to go third while Stroll could only manage sixth. So far, Stroll has outscored Pérez on points, with the Canadian having 57 points to his name, to his teammate’s 44. If Pérez was well, assuming he could not have started the British Grand Prix due to the clutch failure, and had finished seventh at the 70th Anniversary GP, same as Hülkenberg, he still would be on 50 points, only seven adrift from Stroll.

Most restaurant discovery apps like Yelp or DoorDash have very limited options when it comes to exploring different types of cuisines. For example, the most common options they have are "Asian, Mexican, Indian, Burger, Pizza." What if there's an app that shows users a bunch of national flags, and each flag represents its own cuisine? Would that encourage you to try different styles of food? For example, clicking on the Denmark flag would show you all the Denmark restaurants in your area.
